Hair For Cancer Challenge - Making The Commitment

Many people are suffering from cancer and have lost their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy. Many other children and adults suffer from Alopecia, an auto-immune disease that causes permanent hair loss of which there is no known cause or cure. If you have long hair, you can help by donating your hair to make a wig. It's a wonderful deed that with the potential to change someone's life for the better.

From <http://www.wikihow.com/Donate-Your-Hair-to-a-Good-Cause>

HAIR FOR CANCER CHALLENGE

HAIR FOR CANCER CHALLENGE, was created just over a year ago, after inquiring about donating my own hair.

I definitely have hair to spare, I havent had s real haircut in years. It was just figuring out who to send it too.

With a ton of places and a new found inspiration,
the challenge was then designed to help spread awareness and introduce the concept of donating your own hair when it's time to see the Hair dresser.

It's also meant to help HAIR DRESSER'S encourage their clients that have come in to make those extra long chops, to send them away with the wonderful intentions to make some one smile.

At no cost of your own, you can actually make a really big difference in some ones else's life.. Some one battling Cancer, some one who is losing there hair, some one deserving the hair you may be about to throw away.

Whilst preparing a list of places, to inform people of places in which they can send there hair, I soon came to find out that most of these places do not actually accept bleached or permd hair.

However, with further research:

I came across a couple pages that DO ACCEPT BLEACHED & PERMED OR PROCESSED HAIR, WITH A MININMUM OF ONLY 6 INCHES.

I then started to realise, that among my Hair Dresser friends, not many of them knew of this either, yet they all love the idea of being able to inspire their clients, in their own Salons, and wanted to get involved..

SO,

Weather you have bleached hair, permed hair, or of course natural hair, there is a place for all those ends!

And with so many people getting mad lengths chopped off there hair every time they sit in a hair dressing chair... and all these inches are just falling to the floor...

So many inches already.. Just falling to the floor.

And this, is why Hair For Cancer Challenge egsists.. to get the word out, to inform & to inspire that hair into the right places!

Also,

To encourage people to actually grow the extra couple inches and make the chop with a purpose!
- Like I've decided to do with my own.

 HAIR UPDATE

After making the commitment to grow out my hair, I soon realised how thin the actual pony tail was and realised that there were a lot of layers had a lot of catching up to do.. Like a lot!

So I have spent a year growing out my hair, trying to keep it healthy - And I almost had it...

Until, I forgot all the bleaching 101 I've learned through out the years, and some how absolutely fried my hair.

And, I know igsactley how I fried my hair..

I toned it twice.. only because I listened to the nit wit in the beauty supply, tell me that toner doesn't actually hurt your hair at all. Forgetting to notice that this woman had black hair, and probably no experience with Toner, and I do.. A-aand btw, YES Toner kills your hair! Period.

So, I went ahead & toned it a second time after bleaching it, all within 3 days - because she said "I'd be fine."

Had I just remembered my own previous experiences with leaving toner in to long I would have shut her inexperienced sales jarble out, and done some of my own actual thinking.

On that note: If your going to give a blonde bleach advice, I'd hope that in some point in your life, you've actually had bleached blonde hair.

So - way to start breaking rules. I was literally on a rule breaking role, because not only did I over tone my hair.. I washed it 3 days in a row trying ro get more brass out..

DONT WASH YOUR FOR HAIR 3-5 DAYS AFTER BLEACHING AND TONING!!!!!! STOP RELAX, SITTING DUCK STYLE.

- This is a rule and I broke it.

So Let me tell you..

How my hair then chopped and broke inches off it's own self. Over the course of the next month, all I heard was snap, snap, snap.. It was quite the snappy disaster.

I now, actually have bangs.. It's not like I've just spent my hole life time growing them out or anything ... not like it's not the hardest part to grow or anything (sarcasm), it's not like they arent always the first thing to break.. but ok... fine... Bangs.

Not even the bangs I'd want, just bangs.

I needed to get my hair back to great health stat.

In order to do so, I've been taking some Biotin and doing some over night Treatments with Lovacado Hair SKIN & Nails.

I have also been using it as a serum once my hair is shampooed & dried. It's really been doing wonders for my hair and all this damage.

My goal is now to get my hair, For the most part, even and just until it reaches my thighs.

Than I'm just going to chop it to just below my shoulders.

I expect that once again, I'm almost there.

In the meantime,

October is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, so I'm going to participate by dying it PINK as its also PINK HAIR FOR HOPE MONTH!

I'-I'm kinda thinking, maybe one of these..

Once it's pink I'll be sure to post all the pics, and even update this blog post with the Before and Afters.

Next, CHOPSVILLE.
